Blocks

2013

With this project, I wanted to bring the act of print making in a playful manner to the public. The size of each block is proportional to its letter frequency—how often each letter is used in the English language (the largest block contains the letters E, T, and A, while the smallest block has Q and Z). I wanted people to create prints from the blocks using handmade type I designed, and to see how often each letter is used.

Each block contains 3 letters: the side parallel to each letter shows the right reading of the letter in vinyl so the participant knows what letter they are about to print. I created each block in such a way so that every letter is visible at all times, and the sides with the relief does not touch the floor (and get messy!)
